Timer on Appstore
Presentation
Timer is your perfect companion for board games, sport, cooking, meditation or whatever activity that needs a precision and powerful timer.
It can be mainly used for short time delays, defined in hours/minutes and SECONDS.
Unlike the build-in timer, the following useful functionalities are added :
- The time can be defined with a seconds precision.
- The timer can be paused and resumed.
- The timer can be looped.
- Portrait and Landscape visualisation modes are handled in all application screens.
- The timer can be used when silence is needed thanks to a flashing screen.
- When the timer ends, different actions can be performed (popup display, screen flashing, alarm sound, looping alarm sound, vibration)
- When the timer is done, the time is still displayed, allowing to know since how long the timer elapsed.
- Different dedicated alarm sounds can be used (Bell, Cooking timer, Watch, Gong, Danger, ...)
- Custom musics/sounds can be selected from the iPod library to be used as alarms.
- Shepard tones can also be used : those tones creates the auditory illusion of a tone that continually ascends or descends in pitch.
- Possibility to define multiple special events that will be triggered when the timer is running.
Sounds, vibrations (if supported) and messages can be notified at any time thanks to a complex time scheduling system.
Here are some events you'll be able to create :
- "Play a Gong sound 30 seconds before end"
- "Every 10 seconds during 1 minute, produce a sound with an increasing pitch"
- "Play a tic tac sound every seconds"
- "Once One-half the time is elapsed, play an iPod song and show a custom message on the screen"
In case, the application quits while a timer is active, the timer will still be active at the application restart.

Help
- The Tic Tac sound is generated thanks to a special event. To disable it, in the Timer app, go to "Settings"->"Events"->"Every seconds - Play Old tic tac" and set "Enabled" to "NO".
- If there is a sound problem, it could come from the hardware volume buttons.
Here is something that can be done :
To check if the Alarms sound are working , launch Timer and press the Settings Button. Then Select the Alarm menu item (in End Notification category). Selecting one of the Alarm menu item should play the corresponding audio alarm.
- be sure that the phone is not in Silent mode (thanks to the vibration hardware button)
- be sure that the volume is not too low (using the hardware volume button). You can try to change it while the alarm sound is playing. - If the Timer application is closed, it won't be able to produce any sounds or to give any notifications (popup, vibration). Like every AppStore application, Timer cannot run in background : no real time notification can be triggered if the application is not active. According to Apple, this limitation is there to preserve battery life. However, In case, the application quits while a timer is active, the timer will still be active at the application restart.
- "Am trying to set up a 75%, 50%, and 25% pizzo alarm event. How should I set up the event to achieve this?"
This single event (time definition in this screenshot) will do it.
History
v2.1
- Fixes the "avoid idle sleep" (renamed "avoid auto-lock") check ignored once an iPod alarm was played.
Note: There is a side effect of using an iPod alarm : the inactivity delay of the auto-lock is reset when the alarm is played.
v2.0 (07 Jan 2010)
- Allows Music/Sound notification from your iPod library. This way, a user can add custom sounds, or use a music as notification.
- Possibility to define multiple special events that will be triggered when the timer is running.
This powerful feature replaces the simple tic tac sound.
- Timer Stop is now manual to allow ipod music playback until Cancel is pressed and to see the elapsed time even if the timer is done.
- Time displayed in red (with a +/- sign) when the timer is elapsed.
- Choose to display remaining or elapsed time
- Alarm screens merged (and include iPod section)
- Bigger "Timer done" displayed in popup
- Smoother portrait/landscape rotation.
v1.4
- Remaining (or current) time displayed with the flash screen notification.
- Full screen flashing text more visible on black background.
- Adaptations to OS 3.0.
v1.3
- Tic Tac sound can be replaced by various other sounds including clicks and Shepard tones.
- New Shepard Beat alarm sound. (best effect when repeat notification is ON) Those Shepard tones creates the auditory illusion of a tone that continually ascends or descends in pitch.
v1.2
- Portrait and Landscape visualisation modes are handled in all application screens.
- The time is displayed with a bigger font size (mainly with the new Landscape orientation).
v1.1
- Using the System notification (vibrate/Piezo) should trigger a vibration on the iPhone and a Piezo audible alert on the iPod Touch.
- Screen can be dimmed during the timer execution.
- A new notification allows to make the screen flash (to use when silence is needed).
- New short alarm sounds : Beep and Water Drop.
- Better organisation of the preferences screen.
Where to Buy
